Satellite crop monitoring that tells you what to do next

Farmonaut is precision agriculture software that watches your fields from space and turns what the satellites see into simple, practical advice. You draw your field once. After that, satellites check it every few days, and our AI farm advisory tells you how your crop is doing, how much water it needs, which nutrients are short, and where pests or diseases may be starting.

What is satellite crop monitoring?

Satellite crop monitoring means using satellite imagery to check the health of a crop across a whole field, without walking it. Satellites photograph the same fields again and again. Each image records more than the human eye can see, including near-infrared light, which healthy plants reflect strongly and stressed plants reflect less.

That matters because a crop often starts to struggle before it looks unhealthy. When a plant comes under stress from water, nutrients, pests or disease, its near-infrared reading can change before any yellowing or wilting shows. By the time a field looks bad from the road, some yield may already be lost. Satellite monitoring spots these early changes, so you still have time to act.

A person scouting a field can only walk one line across it. The satellite reads every 10 metres of every field, on the same schedule, whether or not anyone had time to check that week. That makes it one of the most reliable ways to keep an eye on many fields at once.

How Farmonaut's AI farm advisory works

Farmonaut combines satellite data with local information and turns it into clear instructions. It works in four steps.

1. Satellites photograph your field

Two kinds of satellites pass over your field. Optical satellites capture colour and hidden wavelengths that reveal crop stress. Radar satellites see through cloud, smoke and haze, so your field record keeps moving even in the rainy season.

2. Every image becomes detailed readings

Each satellite pass is turned into readings such as crop greenness, early stress, water inside the plant, soil moisture, organic matter and slope. In total, Farmonaut gives you 16 different satellite views of every field, each with a note on when it is the right one to use.

3. We add the context satellites cannot see

The readings are combined with your soil history, local weather and your crop's normal calendar, specific to your field and the date. This is what turns a coloured map into advice that fits your farm.

4. You get clear answers you can act on

Instead of a chart you have to interpret, you get water requirements in millimetres, fertilizer doses in kilograms, pest risks with probabilities, and the reason behind every recommendation.

What you get for every field

Every field you add gets a full advisory, refreshed after each satellite pass. Here is what it covers.

Crop health monitoring and NDVI maps

See a clear health map of your field in five levels: healthy, light stress, moderate stress, high stress and very high stress. Zoom into any part of the field to find the problem area. Along with NDVI maps, you can use views built for early crop growth, where bare soil can make standard readings misleading, and for dense crops, where they help you spot early signs of stress such as nitrogen shortage. You can also compare any two dates side by side, or watch the whole season as a timelapse.

Irrigation advice and soil moisture monitoring

Know how much water your crop and soil hold, how quickly it is being used, and where the field needs attention. Farmonaut gives you an irrigation schedule for the next 7 days, in millimetres per day, with the best time to irrigate based on your crop stage and the weather forecast. When rain is expected, the schedule tells you to skip irrigation that day. Skipping water you do not need is one of the biggest sources of savings.

Fertilizer recommendations

See exactly where each nutrient stands against what your crop needs, and get the recommended dose in kilograms for each of 5 nutrients. Each recommendation comes with both an organic and a chemical source. If the right answer is to apply nothing, Farmonaut tells you that too. Across the fields we have analysed, some of the biggest savings came from avoiding unnecessary applications.

Pest, disease and weed alerts

Know which pest, disease or weed is putting your crop at risk, why it was flagged, and what you can do about it. Every warning names the specific species, gives a risk probability, explains the conditions behind it, and offers two treatment options, one organic and one chemical. Different fields can get different warnings, even on the same farm, because each one is judged on its own conditions.

Yield estimates

Get an updated yield estimate per acre and an expected harvest date as the season goes on, with the reason behind every change. This helps you plan labour, storage and sales earlier, and it can warn you about a fall in yield before it is visible in the field.

Soil insights

Understand the basics of your field: soil acidity, salinity, organic matter, elevation and slope, with simple field-level notes for each reading.

Real results from real farms

Every number in a Farmonaut report comes from satellite data for that specific field. Here is what that looks like in practice.

Blueberries in Florida, United States. A commercial grower in Citrus County monitoring 25 blocks, a total of 124 acres, reported that Farmonaut's advisory helped him optimise both irrigation and fertilizer use by 30–50%. When we looked back at the advisory he was reading, the savings were easy to trace. On 78 of 175 block-days in one week, the advice was not to irrigate, because rain was forecast. On 8 of his 25 blocks, the advice was to apply no fertilizer at all, because all five nutrients were already in range. Read the full blueberry case study.

Groundnut in Nigeria. On one groundnut field, the recommendation was to skip nitrogen completely, because groundnut produces its own. Advice like this saves money that a fixed fertilizer calendar would have spent. Read the Nigeria case study.

Built for every farm, every crop and every country

The same satellite crop monitoring system works across crops, climates and countries. Farmonaut already monitors 166 crops, from broad-acre crops such as wheat, corn and soybean to fruit and tree crops such as grapes, citrus, blueberries and apples. More than 116,000 acres of oil palm are monitored across 11 countries, and apple growers use Farmonaut in 45 countries.

Farmonaut is used by:

You can share any field directly with your agronomist, farm manager or buyer as a link, with no login needed. You can also download or print the report, and get it in the language you choose.

Why satellites instead of sensors or drones?

Sensors and drones can be useful, but they cost money, need maintenance, and only cover the places where you put them or fly them. Satellite crop monitoring gives you precision farming insights without the cost of precision farming equipment.

Getting started in three simple steps

  1. Add your field. Search for your farm's address and draw the boundary, or upload an existing map file. Choose your crop and sowing date so the advice matches your crop's stage.
  2. Get your first satellite data. It arrives within about 10 minutes. After that, you get fresh readings and updated advice after every satellite pass.
  3. Act on the advisory. The report opens your worst field first, so you always know where to start. Follow the irrigation, fertilizer and pest advice, and share the report with whoever does the work in the field.

Frequently asked questions

How often will I get new satellite images of my field?

Satellites pass over your field every few days. How often depends on where your farm is and on satellite schedules. You receive data for each date a satellite passes. Radar imagery keeps your record going on cloudy days, and you can also request historical imagery where it is available.

Do I need to buy any equipment?

No. Farmonaut works entirely from satellite data. You do not need sensors, drones, GPS kits or weather stations. You only need a web browser.

How do I add my field?

Search for your farm's address and draw the field boundary on the map, or upload an existing map file such as a KML. Your first satellite data arrives within about 10 minutes.

Which crops does Farmonaut support?

Farmonaut already monitors 166 crops, including cereals, oilseeds, pulses, cotton, sugarcane, vegetables, orchards, vineyards, plantations and pasture. Adding a new crop does not need a new system, so the list keeps growing.

How accurate is satellite crop monitoring?

Satellite imagery measures the whole field every 10 metres, so it is very good at showing where a crop is changing and how quickly. The advisory also uses your local weather, soil history and crop calendar. For decisions that need a closer look, use the health map to decide exactly where to scout, so your time goes to the areas that need it.

Can I share reports with my agronomist or buyer?

Yes. You can share any field as a link, with no login needed, or download and print the report.

Can I cancel my plan?

Yes. Plans renew automatically, and you can cancel at any time before the renewal date.
